It Started with Guilt…
and a Lot of Struggle

If you’ve ever owned a dog, you know the look.  The sad eyes.  The dramatic sigh.
The way they somehow know you’re about to leave without them.

Our dogs — Drake, Butterball, and Willett — had it perfected.

Every time we packed up for a day on the water, the guilt kicked in.

“Let’s just take them,” I’d say.

My family would roll their eyes.

Because they knew what came next.

Troy and Angela Bruce Founders of nautiDAWGS dog boat ladder

One Christmas break, I’d had enough.

I grabbed some wood, a few hinges, and built the first version of what would eventually become the nautiDAWGS dog boat ladder.

Spoiler alert:  It was awful.  But the idea was there.

I knew it needed to be:

✔ Safe – No slippery surfaces. No claw traps.
✔ Easy – Something that deploys in seconds.
✔ Versatile – It had to work on different boats and docks.
✔ Compact – Stow easily when not in use.
✔ Durable – Built for water- built to last.

It took four years.  Countless prototypes.  More trial and error than I’d like to admit.  There were days I wanted to quit.

But every time I saw Drake swimming circles around the boat waiting for a lift…

I knew I had to figure it out.

The Solution:
Build It Ourselves

we know that boating with dogs can be a challege asking how do we get the dog back on the boat

Taking the dogs boating meant one thing:

They were going in the water.

Drake launched himself off the boat like an Olympic diver.
Butterball waited patiently for his life jacket before jumping.
Willett stayed seated like royalty, watching the chaos unfold.

The real trouble started when it was time to get them back on board. Dragging a soaking-wet, squirming dog over the side of a boat isn’t easy.

We tried everything.  Hoisting.  Lifting.  Bribing with treats.

It was exhausting.  Sometimes painful.

And it never felt safe.

For them.  Or for us.

There had to be a better way to help dogs get back onto a boat.

The Problem:
No Safe Way Back Onboard

The nautiDAWGS Boat Ladder Was Born

Today, nautiDAWGS is a compact, slip-resistant dog boat ladder designed to help dogs climb back onto boats safely — without you lifting them.

No straps. No complicated setup. No getting in the water.

Just a smart, durable ladder built from fiberglass and stainless steel that won’t rust or corrode.

It works on pleasure boats, pontoons, fishing boats, hunting boats, cruisers, and docks.

A Family Business Built with Love

(and a little dog slobber)

nautiDAWGS isn’t a big corporation. It’s a family project born out of real frustration — and real love for our dogs.

We use this ladder.  We believe in it. We stand behind it.

Because boating with your dog should feel simple.

It should feel safe.

It should feel like freedom.

Welcome aboard!
